Dear David,
We viewed your exhibition, Scenes from the House Dream, at the National Gallery yesterday while on a visit to Ottawa from Ithaca, NY. Our twin 6 yo sons were at their limit when I asked for just a little more patience to visit your exhibit, of which I had no knowledge.
With one peak, their whole beings were over the moon with joy, proclaiming rapturously, “I love it. Where can you buy this? I want this at our house.” With each new view, one would tell the other, “Oh, you’re going to love this!” “It’s brilliant!” They became so enraptured that they were covering their ears so as not to spoil any surprise for themselves. It was really beautiful to see them react so fully and passionately. Blake told me “This exhibit made the visit [to the National Gallery] worth it.” Liam pleaded, “Can’t we go see what else is here? I don’t want to leave.” It was a dramatic change from their status before your exhibit. Suffice to say, they are quite inspired. We are glad they have experienced viewing art in such a transforming way so early.
Blake says: They were very nice. I would like to see more of your designs. Hope you’re doing well. Blake.
Liam: I like your designs. I felt glad seeing your work. And I want to come back to the museum. Liam.
You’ve really captured something special that is moody, transporting, accessible, clever, and speaks to the child in all of us.
Thanks for transforming our museum visit!
Cheers,
Alison, Thompson, Liam & Blake
